Spiritual Dreams By: Karina Malpica "If you wish, the Holy Spirit can use the (18:02:02) A course in Miracles There is an old and universal tradition about the nature of the dreams which unfortunately has lost credibility in modern times. This vision sustains that some dreams have a divine origin, are a portal to the spiritual worlds, and can transmit messages and internal visions, even of prophetic character. In the Old Testament there is a verse that puts in mouth of God these recommendations: "Listen my words: If there is a prophet among you, I will give myself to know him in a vision. I will speak to him in a dream." The Egyptians thought that the dreams were caused by the trips of the soul during the night rest. The same thougth is still shared today by millions of people in India. Their oldest texts point out that due to these trips of the soul the children can dream of impressions of their past lives and the old men with images of their next incarnations. The Chinese also believed that the soul could separate the body during the dream in order to travel to the spiritual worlds, where it could communicate with those which had left already, and return after this trip to the physical body with memories of the visit. For this reason the Chinese high officials were urged to look for divine guide in the dreams in order to make good decisions and to carry out trials with wisdom. Between the huicholes or wirrarikas of Mexico and many other indigenous groups in America, it is still believed that through a dream, a god or an ancestor can send a message, specialy to a marak'ame or shaman, or even to a group of people if he or she considers it necessary. The Australians aboriginal have in each tribe a member who performs the functions of "dream evoker" They believe that, by means of a ritual, they can evoke a dream when they need help to understand a relationship, a question of health or the purpose of some certain experience. The dream evoker, besides guiding them in the ritual, helps them to interpret the dreams they had as a result. In old Europe, there was also a high consideration for dreams. The Greek temple of Asclepius was erected in its origin as a place of great healing energy where a sick person could go to sleep and have a dream intrinsically healing. The rite was transformed throughout the time and those in charge of the temple, or therapeutes, began to fuction as interpreters of the healing instructions hidden in the symbolism of the dream. After that the dreams were attributed a smaller healing force, and they became cryptical messages that should be interpreted by the therapists, which analyzed these gods’ statements in order to determining the correct course to leave the illness. One of the biggest losses in our modern psychology in its persuit of scientific grounds has been to discard these ancestral visions, since the spiritual character of dreams prevails nowadays as much as in the old times. Thousands of people report prophetic dreams, family and dead friends visits, and also outside body trips to distant places on Earth or even to spiritual dimensions. However there is more people simply reporting to have received inspiration or useful warnings during their dreams. We all dream. It is a fact proved by science. When people say they don’t dream, what really happens is that they don't remember their dream experiences. However, at the moment we have different techniques that help us to remember them in a more regular basis and with more details. A soon as we exercise our dream memory for some time, we realize that there are different types of dreams. Basically there are some related with our emotional past and others related with our perspectives for the future. The most fantastic in the dreams is that when we begin to lend a minimum of attention to the messages that contain, it arrives some day in which we begin to receive practical advice to solve problems that burden us in a certain moment, to take to term some investigation or to help us on some creative process. They are advices coming directly from the Spirit. Either if we consider them as emotional discharges of the unconscious, as soul trips outside the body or as both things, the dreams always leave in our memory a series of images or scenes which can be remembered, studied and, in certain measure, interpreted or understood; in such a way that we can apply these knowledge on behalf of our personal and collective evolution. As there are techniques to remember the dreams, there are also many techniques to help us to decipher their simbolism, re-experiment them, evoke them and fully understand their meaning. There are even some techniques that gradually allow us to enter in to the dream state without losing conscience or to gain lucidity when we allredy ate inside these dream spaces. Because all of these reazons, now as in the past, to work with dreams is a fascinating adventure that leads us to self knowledge and allows us to get in touch with our Spirit in order to apply its inexhaustible wisdom. In my Workshops on Shamanism & Dreams I teach different techniques which provides effective tools to remember and to interpret the dreams that the student will have throughout all her or his life. Also we rescue some Iroquois traditions and we carry out our own "Festival of Dreams" following the general guidelines that the Iroquois inherited us. We invite you to that attend the next
